Other Site Characteristics

Rilievi montuosi formati di arenarie, che costituiscono una breve ma interessante diramazione verso Nord-est della catena dei Monti Sibillini, le cui cime più elevate sono il Montre Oialona (m 1160) e il Colle Propezzano (m 1016); la zona è in parte interessata da foreste di caducifoglie, ma sono presenti anche prati mesofili e umidi e alcuni lembi di brughiera a calluna. Nel sottobosco della faggeta cresce il mirtillo nero.

L'importanza della zona deriva dalla presenza nei vari ambienti di diverse specie acidofile e soprattutto dai lembi di brughiera, formazione vegetale che nelle Marche compare soltanto in questa località.
