Si tratta di un rilievo montuoso del settore collinare marchigiano costituito da rocce argillose e marnose.

I boschi di caducifoglie dell'Ascensione meritano di essere conservati anche per la presenza di agrifoglio. Il sito è sottoposto alle influenze mitigatrici del litorale marino e alle influenze montane: tali influenze si ripercuotono sulla composizione floristica dell'area.
