Other Site Characteristics

Comprende alcuni contrafforti calcarei meridionali della Maiella ed è caratterizzato da un complesso di boschi mesofili di caducifoglie (faggete e cerrete in prevalenza), di pascoli, di rupi, torrenti ed acquitrini temporanei. Nel sito sono comprese le foreste demaniali "La Castelletta" e "Val di Terra". Visono incluse tra le più estese e interessanti faggete del comprensorio magellense.

4.2 Quality and importance

Importante è la dislocazione spaziale del sito (ruolo di corridoio) per alcune popolazioni di specie (orso e lupo). Le faggete, di superfice estese, esprimono una complessità strutturale e funzionale da garantire una diversità biocenotica. La presenza di acque limpide, di sorgenti reocrene, di ambienti umidi determinano alta diversità a livello di landscape. Anche gli endemismi arborei ed alcuni rappresentanti dulcacquicoli rendono conto della alta qualità ambientale.
