Other Site Characteristics

GEOLOGIA: orizzonte calcareo discontinuo costituito da calciruditi con clasti subarrotondati e calcareniti. SUOLI: mollisuoli haplustolls, inceptisuoli haplumbrepts. CLIMA: regione temperata, termotipo montano superiore, ombrotipo umido superiore. VEGETAZIONE: boschi a cerro ed abete bianco. L'habitat 6210 è presente nell'aspetto prioritario.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito è caratterizzato da foreste pluristratificate dell'orizzonte submontano. In Molise tali boschi sono caratterizzati dalla presenza nello strato arboreo di Abies alba dominante o misto a Quercus cerris, mentre nello strato dominato compaiono Fagus sylvatica, Acer campestris, Carpinus betulus, e Corylus avellana. Il contatto catenale di questi boschi si verifica sia con la Fagetalia sylvcaticae sia con la Quercetalia pubescenti - petraeae, che rifornisce il sottobosco di specie come Ligustrum vulgare, Crataegus monogyna, Lonicera caprifolium e di specie nemorali termofile. La sostanziale integrità ecosistemica ha permesso la sopravvivenza di specie animali come l'orso (Ursus arctos marsicanus), il lupo (Canis lupus), l'aquila reale (Aquila chrysaetos) e di numerose altre. Il sito presenta globalmente un eccellente grado di conservazione ed un elevato valore paesaggistico.
