Other Site Characteristics

Il territorio del SIC comprende una porzione dell'alveo del Torrente Tirino e il rilievo del Monte Ferrante, occupato per lo più da rimboschimenti a conifere e da un lembo boschivo a querce e frassini. GEOLOGIA: calcareniti grigio-chiare ben stratificate alternanti con calcari marnosi, marne verdoline e calcari pseudo cristallini (Monte Ferrante), argille, limi, sabbie e coperture detritico-ciottolose. Depositi lacustri e fluvio lacustri (T. Tirino). SUOLI: incepti suoli haplumprets lithic, inceptisuoli humaquepts fluvaquentic.

4.2 Quality and importance

Ambiente di particolare bellezza per la forma incassata tra le rocce su cui si rinvengono anche elementi termofili. Notevole la presenza del bosco alveale a Salix alba di Salix fragilis e per i quali è stato riconosciuto l'habitat 92A0. Di rilevante interesse anche la presenza di specie come Lemna trisulca e Carex pendula. Sito di nidificazione per alcune specie di ornitofauna e area di frequentazione per lupo (Canis lupus) ed orso (Ursus arctos). Il valore paesaggistico ed ambientale è elevato.
