Other Site Characteristics

Clima: Termotipo montano inferiore, Ombrotipo umido inferiore. Geologia: arenarie micacee alternate ad argille siltose o subordinatamente a calcari marnosi chiari.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito è caratterizzato da foreste pluristratificate dell'orizzonte submontano. In Molise tali boschi sono caratterizzati dalla presenza nello strato arboreo di Abies alba dominante o misto a Quercus cerris, mentre nello strato dominato compaiono Fagus sylvatica, Acer campestris, Carpinus betulus e Corylus avellana. Il contatto catenale di questi boschi si verifica sia con la Fagetalia sylvaticae, sia con la Quercetalia pubescentis-petraeae che rifornisce il sottobosco di specie come Ligustrum vulgare, Crataegus monogina, Lonicera caprifolium e di specie nemorali termofile. La buona qualità del sito è confermata dalla presenza di numerose specie animali sia invertebrati (Rosalia alpina, Callimorpha quadripunctaria) che vertebrati (Canis lupus ed una ricca ornitofauna nidificante).
