Other Site Characteristics

CLIMA: regione temperata, termotipo collinare, ombrotipo umido inferiore. GEOLOGIA: Calcareniti biancastre; calcari marnosi. L'habitat 6210 è presente nell'aspetto prioritario.

4.2 Quality and importance

L'area è ricoperta da faggeta (Fagus sylvatica) ed a tratti da radure, praterie, crinali erbosi e coste rocciose, con aspetti geomorfologici suggestivi e ricchezza di fenomeni carsici. Presenza di numerosi laghetti sparsi nelle depressioni doline degli altipiani. I boschi a dominanza di faggio sono le formazioni forestali meglio conservate e vi si trovano specie ad elevato valore biogeografico come Taxus baccata. Nonostante Abies alba sia stato introdotto, sono stati rilevati giovani individui in salute della specie in alcune aree della faggeta, segno positivo di una rinnovazione dell'abete. Sono presenti numerose specie di ornitofauna, erpetofauna e mammolofauna (è area di frequentazione del lupo). Il tutto concorre a definire una buona qualità ambientale. Sono presenti nel sito anche alcune grotte, la cui importanza è data dalla loro stessa natura geomorfologica che le rende peculiari isole imogeografiche.
