Other Site Characteristics

La quasi totalità del sito è ricoperta dal bosco di latifoglie che si articola in 4 fitocenosi principali. Il versante orientale di Monte S.Paolo è occupato da una formazione dominata da Quercus ilex. La quasi totalità del versante meridionale è interessato da un bosco a Quercus pubescens e Carpinus orientalis, talvolta degradato a boscaglia. Il versante settentrionale, più mesofilo, ospita boschi a cerro, mentre sui versanti più acclii sono presenti lembi di bosco a Ostrya carpinifolia. Alle formazioni boschive si raccordano, come ecotoni, le macchie e le praterie aride.

4.2 Quality and importance

Per la qualità di conservazione degli ambienti l'area risulta di importanza elevata nonostante l'utilizzo antropico, che però ha lasciato formazioni boschive diversificate tra loro e in buono stato. Area di collegamento tra le formazioni mediterranee e quelle montane delle Mainarde, di elevato valore paesaggistico e naturalistico. E' frequentata da una ricca fauna (Canis lupus, Ursus arctos).
