Il lago di Occhito è un invaso di origine artificiale in fase di lente naturalizzazione.

4.2 Quality and importance

Sito costituito dal corso pugliese del fiume Fortore, caratterizzato da una interessante vegetazione arborea ripariale e dal piccolo ma pregevole bosco Dragonara costituito da specie igrofile e da Quercus petraea. In particolare lungo il corso del Fortore vi è l'invaso artificiale di Occhito, biotopo di elevato interesse sotto il profilo avifaunistico poichè importante zona umida. le specie di uccelli contrassegnate con D sono da considerare popolazioni isolate. Il sito è importante per la presenza della lontra.
