Other Site Characteristics

Substrato geologico costituito da calcari del Cretacico e del Giurassico superiore. L'area ricade nella più estesa area di minime precipitazioni dell'Italia peninsulare.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito include le are substeppiche più vaste della Puglia con elevatissima biodiversità e una serie di cayon di origine erosiva che ospitano un ambiente rupestre di elevato interesse naturalistico con rare specie vegetali endemiche e di elevato interesse fitogeografico. Unica stazione peninsulare di Tetrax tertax. Popolazioni isolate di Petronia petronia. Presenza di Vipera aspis hugyi endemica dell'Italia meridionale. Inoltre vi è la presenza di Garighe di Euphorbia spinosa con percentuale di copertura 5 e valutazioni ripsettivamente: A, A, C, A.
