Il substrato geologico è costituito da formazioni calcaree dell'Eocene Inferiore e Medio, formazione del Cretacico, del medio e superiore Pleistocene.

4.2 Quality and importance

Piccolo arcipelago caratterizzato da isole e isolotti di modeste dimensioni e con habitat altamente diversificati. In esse predominano gli habitat delle scogliere e rupestri.L'area intorno agli isolotti ospita una prateria di Posidonia .Su uno degli isolotti è presente una pineta autoctona a Pino d'Aleppo.Importante rotta migratoria. Numerosi elementi faunistici endemici o transadriatici. Camponotus nylanderi: endemica dell'Italia meridionale; Aphppallida: endemica del sud Italia, ristretta alle Tremiti in Puglia; Podarcis sicula sancticolai: sottospecie endemica delle Tremiti.
