Other Site Characteristics

Il sito è caratterizzato da esposizione sud e dalla presenza di scarse precipitazioni che si attestano fra i 400 e i 600 mm annui. Pertanto il clima è spiccatamente caldo-arido e corrisponde alla seconda più estesa area di minima piovosità della Puglia e dell'intera Italia peninsulare.

4.2 Quality and importance

Sito caratterizzato prevalentemente dalla presenza di pineta su sabbia (habitat prioritario) e da dune a ginepro (Pistacio - Juniperetum macrocarpae). Sono inclusi nel sito alcuni fiumi jonici come il Lato, il Lenne e l'habitat delle steppe salate del Lago Salinella (habitat prioritario).
