Other Site Characteristics

In questa zona, i macchioni di Posidonia oceanica si presentano rigogliosi con elevata moderata fogliare ed altezza media variabile intorno ai 70-80 cm. La presenza di residui di prateria nel tratto prospiciente le Isole Cheradi è probabilmente dovuto alla presenza di postazioni militari che precludono qualsiasi attività nell'area di mare. Verso Torre Canneto la maggiore rigogliosità e buona salute del posidonieto è probabilmente dovuta ad una diminuzione della pressione antropica sulla fascia costiera.

4.2 Quality and importance

Lungo il limite inferiore della prateria è presente una biocenosi Coralligena ricca e diversificata dal punto di vista biologico. Il coralligeno presenta, infatti, una notevole variètà di specie vegetali come alghe incrostanti Rodoficee (Peyssonnelia, Melobesia) e Cloroficee (Codium bursa, Halimeda tuna) ed animali come Poriferi (Agelas oroides, Axinella sp.), Briozoi (Schizobrachiella sanguinea), Anellidi (Protula sp., Hydroides sp.), Echinodermi (Echinaster sepositus) ed infine Tunicati ( Halocynthia papillosa, Didemnum spp.).
