Other Site Characteristics
| Il territorio del Sic "Gole del Platano" è ubicato nella parte nord-occidentale della Regione a confine con la
Campania, ricade nel bacino idrografico del fiume Sele e neiterritori amministrativi di Baragiano, Bella,
Balvano, Muro Lucano e Vietri di Potenza.Il torrente Platano ha i caratteri dei fiumi appenninici a lento
decorso su substrato prevalentemente calcareo-marnoso-arenaceo; esso scorre incassato tra pareti rocciose
a sviluppo verticale che ospitano cavità naturali rivestite da briofite e pteridofite. Si tratta di un canyon
connotato da un carattere particolarmente selvaggio, che si accentua man mano che si scende lungo il
torrente così come il grado di naturalità delle formazioni individuate. Tutto ciò rende il sito attraente sia dal
punto di vista conservazionistico che della fruizione sostenibile ed esperta.Meritevoli di tutela sono i versanti
caratterizzati dalla presenza di alberi e arbusti di medie e basse dimensioni, con nuclei di sclerofille dominati
da leccio (Quercus ilex) a cui sporadicamente si associa Ostrya carpinifolia, Fraxinus ornus e macchia
mediterranea e le pareti più acclivi, imponenti e inaccessibili che rappresentano anche l'habitat ideale per la
riproduzione delle specie dell'avifauna rupicole.Tra gli habitat prioritari, in particolare, si segnalano le praterie
dell'Habitat 6210, habitat tipicamente secondari, il cui mantenimento subordinato alle attività di sfalcio o di
pascolamento del bestiame, è garantito dalla persistenza delle tradizionali attività agro-pastorali.Da segnalare
anche la presenza di boschi di versanti e di valloni del Tilio-Acerion dell'habitat 9180. Vanno infine menzionati
gli habitat rupestri 8210" "Pareti rocciose calcaree con vegetazione casmofitica" anche se presenti con lembi
discontinui e misti.La vegetazione ripariale forestale è caratterizzata da Populus nigra e Salix sp. nel tratto più
a monte e più aperto, che presenta contatti catenali con l'habitat 3250 legato al regime torrentizio del corso
d'acqua, dal quale scaturiscono greti ciottolosi. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Il percorso si snoda sul fondo del maestoso canyon all'interno del Platano, immerso in paesaggio selvaggio e
suggestivo. Le gole del Platano, si presentano come un profondo canyon che per un tratto segna anche il
confine tra la Campania e la Basilicata, un tratto particolarmente panoramico in cui si possono ammirare dal
greto sinuoso del torrente i ponti e le gallerie dell'antica linea ferroviaria che costeggia le parte rocciose del
canyon che sembrano cadere a picco. Il paesaggio è reso estremamente suggestivo dalle infinite tonalità di
colori della vegetazione che si confondono con le sfumature cangianti delle rocce a strapiombo sul
canyon.L'area risulta interessante dal punto di vista naturalistico, in particolare si segnala un ricco
contingente di ornitofauna: la Cicogna nera (Ciconia nigra) la cui popolazione italiana riveste particolare
interesse biogeografico, in quanto posta a metà tra popolazioni disgiunte (quella iberica e quella europea
centro-orientale); l'aquila reale (Aquila chrysaetos) che frequenta anche il sito lucano "Monte Paratiello" e
campano "Monte Eremita".Tra i mammiferi nel SIC è rilevante la presenza del lupo (Canis lupus) e della
Lontra (Lutra lutra), specie inserita dall'IUCN nella categoria di minaccia NT-Near Threatened (quasi a
rischio). Il sito vanta inoltre una notevole diversità di specie di anfibi e rettili legati all'asta torrentizia ed alle
acque naturali in buono stato di conservazione: Rana italica e Raganella sono solo le punte emergenti di una
batracocenosi ricchissima. Le libellule risultano importantissime per vari uccelli insettivori e testimonianza di
un'area esente dalla presenza di insetticidi. |
