Other Site Characteristics

Piccolo isolotto con ampio sviluppo di scogliere e rupi marittime.Si tratta di un piccolo isolotto di affioramento di roccia calcarea, con ampio sviluppo di scogliere e rupi marittime, ubicato al largo del litorale tra Diamante e Cirella (cs) e rappresenta uno dei rari esempi di isola costiera in Calabria. Lisola è ricoperta da una fitta macchia mediterranea a Pistacia lentiscus, Myrtus communis, Phyllirea latifolia ed Euphorbia dendroides, riferibile allOleo-Ceratonion dei Pistacio-Rhamnetalia. Le zone più acclivi sono caratterizzate dalla dominanza di Euphorbia dendroides, mentre nellarea sommitale dellisola la macchia è a tratti interrotta da formazioni substeppiche ad Ampelodesmos mauritanicus. Il complesso di vegetazione delle scogliere marittime, particolarmente esteso sul lato occidentale dellisola, è inquadrabile nei CRITHMO-LIMONIETALIA ed è caratterizzato da specie quali Crithmum maritimum (Finocchio di mare), Reichardia picroides var. maritima (Grattalingua comune), Lotus cytisoides (Ginestrino delle scogliere), Inula crithmoides (Enula bacicci) e Limonium remotispiculum.

4.2 Quality and importance

Raro esempio , in Calabria, di isola costiera a macchia mediterranea relativamente ben conservata. Lisola è importante dal punto di vista floristico per la presenza di Dianthus rupicola, specie di interesse comunitario. Tra le altre specie dinteresse conservazionistico si segnalano Limonium remotispiculum, endemico di una ristretta fascia costiera tirrenica che si estende dalla Calabria settentrionale fino alla costa del Cilento, e Serapias parviflora, piccola orchidea a distribuzione stenomediterranea, inserita nella Lista Rossa regionale con lo status di vulnerabile.
