Other Site Characteristics

Il sito si estende in unarea forestale prevalentemente caratterizzata da formazioni a Castanea sativa Miller. Queste comunità, in cui si rinvengono talora altre specie arboree quali Quercus cerris, Sorbus domestica, Acer lobelii, Acer mospessulanum e Alnus cordata, sono state sempre influenzate dalluomo e possono presentare diversi stadi di sviluppo (matricine, fustaie, ecc.). Gli individui di castagno sono in genere giovani e coetanei, ma non sono rari esemplari vetusti e plurisecolari che andrebbero protetti e valorizzati. Il pantano, in via dinterramento, è circondato da vegetazione di cinta a megaforbie quali la tifa (Typha latifolia) e la cannuccia di palude (Phragmytes australis) che costituisce un complesso mosaico di associazioni strettamente dipendenti dal gradiente idrico del suolo.

4.2 Quality and importance

Sito riproduttivo di Triturus carnifex e Bombina variegata. Il sito in questione è stato proposto per il suo elevato valore faunistico ed in particolare per la ricca fauna erpetologia, che va in questo caso considerata come principale indicatore insieme agli habitat igrofili ai quali sono legate tutte le specie di anfibi e rettili indicate nella scheda.
