Other Site Characteristics

All'interno del sito ricade una grotta carsica caratterizzata da una piccola apertura, localizzata in un'area incolta. Geologicamente è interessata da calcari miocenici con superfici più o meno pianeggianti. L'area ricade all'interno della fascia bioclimatica termomediterranea subumida. La vegetazione naturale è rappresentata da frammenti di gariga nelle zone rocciose più pianeggianti, o da macchia ad Euphorbia dendroides sui costoni rocciosi. Abbastanza diffuse sono le praterie steppiche a Hyparrhenia hirta.

4.2 Quality and importance

Grotta di ridotte dimensioni, molto concrezionata e ricca di specie endemiche, molte delle quali esclusive di poche cavità della regione iblea. Essa ospita inoltre colonie di Chirotteri numericamente significative sia su scala locale che regionale. L'epigeo non presenta aspetti naturalisticamente rilevanti ed è caratterizzato da praterie e incolti. La vegetazione naturale nel complesso si presenta piuttosto degradata e non mostra particolari interesse naturalistico e paesaggistico. Sotto il profilo floristico si rileva comunque la presenza di alcune specie di un certo interesse geobotanico, in parte menzionate nell'elenco riportato nella sezione 3.3 (D).
