Other Site Characteristics

Il SIC è compreso nella parte di territorio che dal promontorio di Torre Murtas arriva fino a Capo S. Lorenzo. Gli stagni si trovano nella fascia costiera della regione di Quirra in corrispondenza della piccola piana generata dalle alluvioni recenti dell'omonimo Rio di Quirra. La piana di Quirra dà luogo ad una ampia falcata sabbiosa lunga circa 8 km. La elevata dinamica litorale produce nei periodi di magra la chiusura della foce ad opera delle sabbie costiere. Nel biotopo si individuano morfologie fortemente caratterizzate sia da un punto di vista genetico che dai processi in atto. Nel territorio del SIC non sono presenti insediamenti turistici in quanto esso ricade, in buona parte, entro i confini del poligono militare di S.Lorenzo.

4.2 Quality and importance

Area complessivamente interessante dal punto di vista ecologico per la varietà di ambienti umidi. La sua importanza è dovuta principalmente alla presenza in esso di numerose specie avifaunistiche di interesse comunitario legate agli ambienti acquatici. Importante presenza inoltre di aspetti vegetazionali delle dune e degli ambienti igrofili e quelli legati alla serie climacica presente nella zona del Castello di Quirra. E' presente nel SIC la specie floristica Linaria flava subsp sardoa, di interesse Comunitario.
