Other Site Characteristics
| Punta Santa Giusta comprende una piccola fascia dunale che si estende per circa 600 m di lunghezza, antistante il cosiddetto Scoglio di Peppino, e appartiene al più ampio sistema costiero di Castiadas-Costa Rei, caratterizzato dalla falcata sabbiosa delle omonime spiagge che si estendono da Capo Ferrato verso sud quasi senza interruzione di continuità. Il sito ha una forma allungata con asse NNW-SSE, ed è delimitato a Sud dallomonimo promontorio, mentre il limite settentrionale coincide con lansa del Rio Santa Giusta; la superficie complessiva non comprende la contigua area stagnale. Nonostante le modeste dimensioni, il comprensorio presenta motivi di notevole interesse, soprattutto dal punto di vista vegetazionale. Il sito, infatti, è caratterizzato dalla presenza della classica articolazione degli habitat delle coste sabbiose e delle dune litoranee che si chiude con una boscaglia costiera a ginepri, residuo di un nucleo di vegetazione forestale più consistente giunto sino alla fine degli anni 90 quando, a causa di un incendio, è stato, in buona parte, distrutto.
Il carattere principale dell'area dove è ubicato il SIC è la sua omogeneità litologica; il territorio infatti è caratterizzato principalmente da rocce granitoidi che vanno a costituire il batolite del Sarrabus, la cui messa in posto è da ricondurre alle fasi tardive dellorogenesi ercinica collocandosi temporalmente tra il Carbonifero superiore e il Permiano.

4.2 Quality and importance
| Il sito e' caratterizzato dalla boscaglia costiera a ginepri, che rappresenta la prima forma di vegetazione arbustiva nei processi di colonizzazione delle sabbie, e che svolge un' importante funzione stabilizzatrice delle dune costiere. Il ginepreto in generale si presenta in alcuni tratti ben conservato e strutturato sia a livello erbaceo che arbustivo, mentre in alcuni tratti corrispondenti alle zone più frequentate durante il periodo estivo, presenta dei fattori di degrado con la scomparsa degli strati vegetali inferiori. Il maggior degrado si osserva lungo gli accessi al mare, che solo in pochi casi sono attrezzati con delle passerelle sopraelevate in legno. |
