Other Site Characteristics

Dusia is the third largest lake in Lithuania (2,334 ha). The are ao Lake Metelys is 1,290 ha, while lake Obelija is the smallest one (572 ha). The average depth of Lake Dusia is 14.6 m, of Lake Metelys - 6.8 m and of Lake Obelija - 4.4 m. The banks of the Lake Dusia are predominantly lofty, whereas the banks of eutrophic lakes Metelys and Obelija are mostly law and covered by a wide helophyte belt. Very mosaic habitats are characteristic of the areas adjacent to the lakes. The lowlands are covered by fens.
