Other Site Characteristics

The diverse habitats are characteristic of the area. The site is comprised of a complex of wetlands including two large raised-bogs, three shalow overgrown lakes (Zuvintas, Zaltytis, Amalvas), surrounding with transitional bogs, sedge fens, reed swamps, wet meadows and agricultural lands. A wet Bukta forest is of particular imortance for threatened woodpecker species. The derelict agricultural land covers not important part of the area.

Sites important for globally threatened Acrocephalus paludicola.Important breeding sites of Botaurus stellaris, Circus aeruginosus, Circus pygargus, Tetrao tetrix, Porzana porzana, Porzana parva, Tringa glareola, Dendrocopos medius, Dendrocopos leucotos, Luscinia svecica, Crex crex, Chlidonias niger threatened at the European Union level.Concentrations of migrating species Anser fabalis, Anser albifrons, Grus grus.
