Other Site Characteristics

The site comprises the mire complex with two lakes (Kernavas - 81 ha, Ðulnys - 2 ha), surrounding forest of different type, several small bogs inside forest, the valleys of Visinèia & Ðalèia rivers, open sandy area in the middle of the territory and short segments of Merkys and Ðpigulë rivers. Pine forest predominated in the area while black alder and spruce stands occupy the valleys of the rivers and areas with waterlogged soil. All the territory is not inhabit by people.

Important breeding sites of Pernis apivorus, Tetrao tetrix, Tetrao urogallus, Aegolius funereus, Caprimulgus europeus, Picoides tridactylus, Anthus campestris threatened at the European Union level.
