Other Site Characteristics

The site is situated in the NE part of Lithuania and includes Lake Sartai, 28 smaller lakes and surounding forests. Antazavë pinewood, Dusetos and Ilgaðilis-Jaskoniðkës forests are the largest forest tracts of the Regional Park. Lake Sartai is among the largest inland water bodies (5 th largest) of Lithuania and covers about 1300 ha. Sventoji river flows through the lake, which is surrounded by wet meadows, marshes, forests and agricultural landscape. All water bodies of the site are covered by ice in winter.

4.2 Quality and importance

The territory of the site is very mosaic and important because of great habitat diversity. The area is important for breeding water and forest birds. 24 species of birds included into the Lithuanian Red Data Book have been recorded in the area during the breeding and migration seasons.
