Other Site Characteristics

1.1 Situation Le site comprend les anciennes carrières près de la localité de Schimpach. 1.2 Milieu physique Dans la majeure partie du site affleurent les couches du Siegenien inférieur à Phyllade bleu, noir et quartzophyllade gris. Toute la zone est couverte par des sols limono-caillouteux à charge schisto-phylladeuse, non gleyifiés. 1.3 Occupation du sol Le site est essentiellement occupé par des plantations d'épicéas (environ 52%) et des prairies (48%) exploitées de façon intensive.

4.2 Quality and importance

Intérêts selon la directive "Habitats" Le site fait partie des cinq sites proposés comme réserve chiroptèrologique pour la conservation d'espèces de chiroptères de l'annexe II de la directive 'Habitats' définis dans le cadre du programme CEE de l'APTCS (Association pour la protection transfrontalière des chauves-souris). Il s'agit d'un site d'hibernation, d'un gîte d'étapes et d'accouplement très important pour deux espèces de chauves-souris de l'annexe II.

Principes de gestion Les principes de gestion à appliquer ne peuvent être établis qu’après des études approfondies concernant les populations de chiroptères présentes. Il faudra notamment déterminer les terrains avoisinants les plus importants pour la survie des espèces. Si cela s’avèrerait nécessaire, des contrats d’extensification pourront être conclus avec les exploitants agricoles des zones les plus importantes.
