Other Site Characteristics

Site represents very expressed relief of moraine hills and ridges covered with dry spruce and pine and mixed forests. Black alder swamps and transitional mires and fens are found in numerous depressions. Site borders the Skaune Lake. There are also agriculture lands in the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Western taiga (9010*), Bog woodland (91D0*) and Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140). Other features Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (6210) and Fennoscandian deciduous swamp woods (9080*). Qualifying species Pulsatilla patens and Agrimonia pilosa. Despite the rather low coverage of Annex I habitats, the site is of high value due to its peculiar geology. Valuable old-growth mixed forest stands. High diversity of rare bird species.
