Other Site Characteristics

Site is located along the Baltic Sea and includes different coastal habitats. Inter-coastal ridges are covered with dry coniferous forests, while in depression black alder swamps and tall sedge fens are found. Also agriculture lands, scattered farmsteads and small rivers are in the site. D - Red Data Book of Latvia and very rare species in Latvia

4.2 Quality and importance

Important site for conservation of all the habitats mentioned in Chapter 3, especially of (2140) grey dunes, (2320) decalcified fixed dunes with Empetrum nigrum, 9010* Western taiga and 9080* Fennoscandian deciduous swamp forests. Qualifying species are Dianthus arenarius arenarius, Liparis loeselii, Linaria loeselii, Cottus gobio, Graphoderus bilineatus.Hosts large number of nationally rare plant and invertebrate species. The only locality of Tofieldia calyculata in Latvia.
