Other Site Characteristics

Site includes raised bog of western type with Trichophorum cespitosum and transitional mire surrounded by bog woodland, fragments of black alder swamps and dry coniferous forests. There is a number of dystrophic lakes in the mire. Small river crosses the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

Qualifying features are 7110* Active raised bogs, 7140 Transitional mires and quaking bogs, 3160 Natural dystrophic lakes, 91D0* Bog woodland and 9080* Fennoscandian deciduous swamp forests. Typical raised bog bird community. One of few breeding sites of Circaetus gallicus in Latvia, and Falco columbarius. Staging site of cranes, breeding site of waterfowl.
