Site includes Sventaja River valley with its habitats - broad-leaved forests with Carpinus betulus and Quercus robur, Alnus glutinosa swamps, dry heath, inland dunes with dry meadows and moderately moist meadows. D - Red Data Book species.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines (9180*), Inland dunes with open Corynephorus and Agrostis grasslands (2330), European dry heath (4030), Sub-Atlantic and medio-European oak or oak-hornbeam forests (9160), 6510 Lowland hay meadows and 6450 Northern Boreal alluvial meadows. Qualifying species - Lutra lutra, Cobitis taenia. One of few sites in Latvia where forests with Carpinus betulus and inland dunes with Corynephorus canescens grasslands are found.
