Site includes dry pine forests and Calluna heath.

4.2 Quality and importance

This is the major breeding area for Roller in Latvia (10-14 breeding pairs, 20-50% of the whole national population). A relatively high proportion of old Scots Pine forest stands with abundance of nest holes excavated by the Black Woodpecker support at least 20 breeding pairs of nationally protected Stock Dove; Tengmalm's Owl also occurs. One of the last sites for breeding Green Woodpecker in Latvia. Other typical bird species are Woodlark, Tawny Pipit and Red-backed Shrike.
