Other Site Characteristics

Site includes dry coniferous and mixed forests with high proportion of aspen; in depressions bog woodland is found. Pilupite River flows in the northern part of the site. D - Red Data Book of Latvia and very rare species.

4.2 Quality and importance

Site of high importance for conservation of Western taiga (9010) and Bog woodland (91D0). Qualifying species are Lutra lutra and Cinna latifolia. Hosts large number of nationally rare plant species, mainly lichens and bryophytes which are also woodland key habitat indicators. One of the few sites suitable for reintroduction of flying squirrel.
