Other Site Characteristics

Shelters internationally important concentrations (above 1 % of flyway population) for Goosander (Mergus merganser) and Little Gull (Larus minutus). Spawning and feeding site for coastal fish communities. The stony reef areas support diverse biological communities representative of hard substratum with many associated species including epibenthos. The habitat is dominated by the red algae Furcellaria lumbricalis, the bivalve Mytilus trossulus and the cirriped Balanus improvisus. The brown alga Fucus vesiclosus co-dominates. Bivalves act as important food source for some fish species and also in shallower areas support the migrating waterbirds populations by being a feeding ground.

4.2 Quality and importance

Hosts numerous bird species: Mergus merganser, Larus minutus, Gavia stellata, Gavia arctica, Cygnus olor, Anas platyrhynchos, Aythya marila, Aythya fuligula, Clangula hyemalis, Bucephala clangula, Mergus serrator, Haliaeetus albicilla, Larus ridibundus, Larus canus, Larus argentatus, Larus marinus, Melanitta fusca, Melanitta nigra.
