Other Site Characteristics

Shelters internationally important concentrations (above 1 % of flyway population) for Red-throated and Black throated divers (Gavia stellata and Gavia arctica), Velvet Scoter (Melanitta fusca), Long tailed duck (Clangula hyemalis) and Little Gull (Larus minutus). Spawning and feeding site for coastal fish communities. The only known spawning sites of national importance of the sea-spawning Coregonus lavaretus population are located in the area. The stony reef areas support diverse biological communities representative of hard substratum with many associated species including epibenthos. Rhodophyta and Phaeophyta groups of algae dominate in phytobenthic community. Zoobenthic community exhibits certain variability, e.g. in zones with vegetation, the dominant species are Theodoxus fluviatilis, Gammarus salinus, on hard substrate without vegetation, the dominant species are Dreissena polymorpha, Mytilus trossulus, and on sandy bottom - Macoma baltica. Altogether, at least fourteen species of macroalgae and more than forty species of macrozoobenthos were recorded in this area.

4.2 Quality and importance
