Other Site Characteristics

A polder complex comprising pools, numerous ditches with reed fringes, marshland, wet meadows, improved grassland and a recreational area (Twiske). The site is located to the north of the city of Amsterdam

4.2 Quality and importance

The following data refer to the period 1993-1997 (data in paragraph 3.2a-b refer te period 1999-2003). Species meeting the 1% threshold (non-breeding): Eurasian Wigeon Anas [Mareca] penelope (1%), Gadwall Anas strepera (1%), Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa (1%). One of the five most important sites for (breeding): Great Bittern Botaurus stellaris. xxx Site largely overlaps with IBA071 (IBA2000) xxx  xxx Quaking bogs, fresh water birds, foraging area for Platalea leucorodia.
