Other Site Characteristics

An area of peatland and pools located in the south-eastern corner of Drenthe province near to the German border, which includes one of the last remaining raised bogs in the Netherlands. The majority of the site has been cut for peat but some parts remain intact. Restoration measures have been taken.

4.2 Quality and importance

Very important for breeding birds, e.g. Lanius collurio and Luscinia svecica. One of the five most important sites for (breeding): Red-backed Shrike Lanius collurio.Site largely overlaps with IBA084 (IBA2000)Important for dragonflies. Good conditions for regeneration of raised bog. The larger of only two sites holding active raised bog (7110).
