Other Site Characteristics

A complex of shallow freshwater lakes (resulting partly from peat diggings), reedbeds and wet meadows, located to the east of the city of Leeuwarden. The site includes two duck decoys.

4.2 Quality and importance

Very important area for Micronotus oeconomus arenicola in Friesland.Species meeting the 1% threshold (non-breeding): White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons (4%), Barnacle Goose Branta leucopsis (6%), Eurasian Wigeon Anas [Mareca] penelope (1%).An important roost for geese Anser which come from surrounding feeding areas.Site largely overlaps with IBA054 (IBA2000)
