  • NP: in case that a habitat type no longer exists in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Cover: decimal values can be entered
  • Caves: for habitat types 8310, 8330 (caves) enter the number of caves if estimated surface is not available.
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation)

Other Site Characteristics

The area contains remnant fragments of a raised bog (formerly 30,000 ha in extent), and includes moor pools, peatlands, marshes, swampy Betula forest, Molinia heathland and sandridges. The site is situated north-east of the city of Weert.

4.2 Quality and importance

The following data refer to the period 1993-1997 (data in paragraph 3.2a-b refer te period 1999-2003). One of the five most important sites for (breeding): Bluethroat Luscinia svecica; (non-breeding): Common Crane Grus grus. The site is a roost for Anser fabalis, but counts probably underestimate actual numbers. Site coincides with IBA087 (IBA2000)Important degraded raised bog with dystrofic lakes, but without the characteristic vegetation of type 3160. Important for insects. One of the most important sites for the habitat type Degraded raised bogs still capable of natural regeneration (7120).
