Other Site Characteristics

A complex of (degraded) raised bogs, heathland, open water, forested areas andsome improved grasslands. The site is located west of the city of Assen.

4.2 Quality and importance

Species meeting the 1% threshold (non-breeding): Bean Goose (fabalis) Anser (fabalis) fabalis (2%).A roost for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas, but no counts are available.Site included in IBA082 (IBA2000)Raised bog (degraded). Very important area for populations of Vipera berus and Coronella austriaca. One of the five most important sites for the habitat type Degraded raised bogs still capable of natural regeneration (7120).
