É imperativo destacar que este sítio alberga tipos habitat fortemente fragmentados e ameaçados (habitats 5330 e 9320), característicos das cotas mais baixas, tendo sido os habitats terrestres que mais foram impactados pelas atividades humanasdesde o início do século XV até à atualidade. A par com estes habitats temos a presença de uma variante de Laurissilvas Macaronésicas (habitat 9360), i.e. laurissilva do barbusano, a qual se encontra na mesma situação de ameaça que os primeiros (habitats 5330 e 9320). Neste sítio são observadas genericamente comunidades que se integram no complexo de vegetação climatófila [séries de vegetação] denominado Mayteno umbellatae-Oleo maderensis sigmetum [série do zambujal madeirense]: 1) O clímax (Mayteno umbellatae- Oleetum maderensis) (inclui-se no habitat 9320) corresponde a micro-bosques ou matagais infra-florestais dominados por arbustos paleomediterrânicos esclerófilos, xerofíticos e termófilos como sejam Olea maderensis, Maytenus umbellata, Chamaemeles coriacea, Dracaena draco, e Asparagus scoparius; 2) O mato de substituição (inclui-se no habitat 5330) do Mayteno- Oleetum maderensis é maioritariamente, em solos medianamente profundos menos erodidos e solos agrícolas abandonados,a comunidade de figueira-do-inferno (Euphorbietum piscatoriae). Também temos presente uma comunidade, i.e. Myrto communis-Hypericetum canariensis (inclui-se no Habitat 5330), dominada pelo nanofanerófito Hypericum canariense que atinge 3 m de altura, sendo uma comunidade infra-termomediterrânica, sub-húmida, subserial dos barbusanais (Semele-Apollonietum barbujanae) mais termófilos, do Sul da Ilha da Madeira entre nas cotas mais baixas. Esta comunidade enquadra-se no complexo de vegetação climatófila [séries de vegetação] denominado Semele androgynae- Apollonio barbujanae sigmetum subserial dos barbusanais (Semele-Apollonietum barbujanae), mais termófilos, do Sul da Ilha da Madeira nas cotas mais baixas. Desta forma, temos como vegetação climax a Laurissilva do barbuzano (Habitat 9360).

4.2 Quality and importance

Assegurar a sobrevivência a longo prazo dos habitats 5330 e 9320, potenciar a recuperação da variante laurisilva do barbusano (habitat 9360) bem como de espécies respetivas, nomeadamente daquelas que possuem a sua área de distribuição principalmente restrita a este sítio, e.g. Jasminum azoricum, Marcetella maderensis, Dracaena draco, mas também de outras espécies tais como Olea maderensis e Chamaemeles coriacea. Os táxones seguintes: Apollonias barbujana, Globularia salicina, Hypericum canariense, Laurus novocanariensis, Salix canariensis, Tolpis suculenta, são incluídos na lista de espécies no campo 3.3 pelo facto de se constituírem como elementosestruturantes de vários habitats presentes neste Sítio, para além de todos eles serem táxones endémicos da Macaronésia.
