Lagoa costeira cuja estrutura depende da abertura artificial e periódica do cordão litoral, funcionando alternadamente como lagoa de água doce ou como zona lagunar de água salobra.

4.2 Quality and importance

Uma das maiores zonas húmidas da Península de Setúbal. Ocorrência de passeriformes transsaharianos de passagem migratória. Importante área de refúgio para patos-reais durante a muda completa de plumagem.
