Lande, tufărișuri, maquis și garigue, phrygana 40 Pajiști alpine și subalpine 60 Categoria de soluri: Oligotrofice si oligomezotrofice. Tipul de sol: Brun feriiluvial; Podzol; Humicosilicatic; Brun acid.;

4.2 Quality and importance

Comparativ cu alte masive muntoase, Muntele Leaota are o diversitate a habitatelor și ca urmare o diversitate floristica mai redusa, la acest lucru contribuind și pășunatul intensiv de-a lungul anilor. Pajistile din aceasta zona au o valoare pastorala scazută care determina o capacitate de pasunat redusa. Deși zona este pașunată intensiv, fenomenul de eroziune a solului este redus. Importanța Muntelui Leaota ca sit Natura 2000 este dată de prezența a trei tipuri de habitate de interes european: habitatului prioritar 6230* Species-rich Nardus grasslands, in siliceous substrates in mountain areas (and submontan areas, in Continental Europe). Habitatul prioritar, în stare bună de conservare este fragmentat, în numeroase porțiuni de dimensiuni variabile, alternând cu sectoare degradate. Pajiștile de acest tip ocupă o suprafață mare, din teritoriul sitului, dar numai pe aproximativ 25% din sit există nardete nedegradate care pot fi incluse în acest tip de habitat. Prin aplicarea unor măsuri de management adecvate, este posibilă refacerea sectoarelor degradate și creșterea suprafeșei habitatului prioritar. Habitatul 4060 Alpine and Boreal heaths, deține 35 % din suprafața sitului fiind elementul principal pentru care propunem desemnarea Muntelui Leaota ca sit Natura 2000. Acest habitat se găsește într-o stare bună de conservare, conținând marea majoritate a elemetelor floristice tipice. Din acest habitat au fost identificate următoarele (sub)tipuri de habitate conform clasificării românești: R3101 -Tufărișuri pitice sud-est carpatice de azalee (Loiseleuria procumbens), R3104 -Tufărișuri sud-est carpatice de smirdar (Rhododendron myrtifolium) cu afin (Vaccinium myrtillus), R3107 - Tufărișuri sud-est carpatice de coacăză (Bruckenthalia spiculifolia) și ienupăr pitic (Juniperus sibirica), R3108 - Tufărișuri sud-est carpatice de ienupăr pitic (Juniperus sibirica), R3111 - Tufărișuri sud-est carpatice de afin (Vaccinium myrtillus). Habitatul 6150 Siliceous alpine and boreal grassland este reprezentat prin R3603 Pajiști sud-est carpatice de părul porcului (Juncus trifidus) și Oreochloa disticha. Habiatatul ocupă cca. 10% din sit și este destul de fragmentat.;
