| Peștera Limanu este cel mai tipic sistem de galerii de tip labirintic din România. Este o cavitate fosilă, monoetajată, orizontală, cu o dezvoltare de 5000 m. Fauna cavernicolă este bine reprezentată prin specii de nevertebrate (specii de insecte și arahnide) și vertebrate, în special chiroptere.; |

| Cap.3.2 (Motivație: D) include specii de nevertebrate troglobionte slab reprezentate numeric și al căror areal este limitat la un număr foarte mic de situri cu mediu cavernicol favorabil metabolismului lor
Adăpostul de hibernare a liliecilor din Peștera Limanu este unul dintre cele trei adăposturi cunoscute în Romania pentru specia Rhinolophus mehelyi, dar lipsa de protecție a acestui sit a dus la degradarea lui și reducerea drastică a populației de lilieci. Specia Rhinolophus mehelyi a fost descrisa în 1901 de Metschie pe exemplare din Romania. Populația acestei specii în România a fost diminuată de la peste 5000 de indivizi la cca. 300 de indivizi.
Protecția eficientă a acestui sit va duce în mod cert la creșterea populației de chiroptere, fiind extrem de importantă pentru salvarea speciei Rhinolophus mehelyi, care poate ajunge la extincție în România.
