El are o directie generala de scurgere de la est catre vest pana la confluenta sa cu Cigherul dupa care isi schimba orientarea catre nord-vest. De la izvoare pana in zona orasului Brad are un curs torential cu albie majora ingusta. in continuare pana la Sebis valea se largeste si prezinta numeroase meandre cu exceptia zonei de chei dintre Halmagiu si Gurahont. Panta raului scade in continuare pana la Chisineu Cris la 0,07 % iar de aici spre frontiera pana la 0,03 %. Crisul Alb colecteaza o serie de afluenti atat pe stanga cat si pe dreapta pe sectoarele superior si mijlociu cum sunt: Bucuresci, Luncoiu, Ribita, Baldovin, Sighisoara, Halmagiu, Sebis iar aval de Ineu, Cigherul. Primele lucrari cu caracter hidrotehnic au inceput dupa anul 1855 cand a fost executata si priza de la Buteni prin care s-a derivat pe Canalul Morilor un debit de 2,5 mc/s.;

4.2 Quality and importance

Situl este foarte important din punct de vedere al proteciei ihtiofaunei Criului Alb. Aria desemnata adapostete 14 specii de peti, toate native. Pe lânga speciile de peti de importana comunitara, pe aceasta zona a fost gasita i specia Leuciscus leuciscus, specie care apare i în Cartea Roie a Vertebratelor din România, fiind amintita ca o specie critic periclitata. De importana ridicata i din punct de vedere al speciei Bombina variegata.;
