4.2 Quality and importance

Situl Dealurile Clujului Est acopera o suprafaa vasta (24405 ha) cu habitate valoroase continentale de stepa i forestiere dacice (transilvane) înca foarte bine conservate dar puternic ameninate în viitor de vastele proiecte de dezvoltare imobiliare i agricole regionale, ce vor lua un impuls major în viitor din cauza proximitaii ariei metropolitane Cluj-Napoca. Pajitile stepice xerice i mezoxerice adapostesc de departe cele mai mari populaii de Centaurea trinervia din România (în UE mai sunt 10 populaii, 6 în Transilvania, 3 în Moldova, 1 în Bulgaria toate foarte mici), una dintre cele mai mari populaii de Goniolimon tataricum din România i UE, cea mai mare populaie din UE a speciei Krascheninnikovia ceratoides (din cele 13, din care doar 3 în România), la care se adauga alte populaii ale unor specii foarte rare, precum Nepeta ucranica, Ranunculus illyricus, Astragalus asper, etc. În pajitile mezofile i mezohigrofile continentale din sit, aflate într-o stare foare buna de conservare – lucru foarte rar întâlnit în Transilvania, se afla cele mai mari populaii din ara i din UE ale speciilor Serratula wolffii, Serratula lycopifolia, Bulbocodium versicolor, de o valoare biologica extrem de mare. La acestea se adauga singura populaie transilvana certa de Adonis volgensis. Pajitile mezofile i mezohigrofile adapostesc comunitai unice în Europa de plante i animale printre care i 4 specii din genul Maculinea ( M. teleius, M. nausithous, M. rebeli, M. alcon). Padurile de carpen i gorun cu Lathyrus hallersteinii tipice/endemice pentru peisajul transilvan i adapostesc populaii protejate de Leptidea morsei i Lopinga achine bine conservate. Ca atare mozaicul de habitate creaza un context transilvan tipic, deosebit de valoros. ;
