Situl Padurea si Lacul Stolnici, alcatuit din doua poligoane situate de-o parte si de cealalta a raului Cotmeana, este situat în zona forestieră de câmpie, în Câmpia Burdea, la zona de contact cu Piemontul Cotmeana. Altitudinea variază între 190 și 233 m, panta între 0 și 25º, expoziția generală fiind cea sudică. Substratul litologic este constituit dintr-un strat gros de pietrișuri levantine și aluviuni de argilă fină. Condițiile climatice sunt cele caracteristice zonei forestiere, subzona stejarului, cu temperatura medie de +10 grade C, cantitatea anuală de precipitații de 550 mm și vânturi dominante din direcția nord-nord-est. Solurile fac parte din clasa Luvisolurilor – preluvosol si luvosol, si Protisolurilor – aluviosol. Din punct de vedere al administatiei silvice, pădurile sunt proprietatea statului și sunt administrate de RNP Romsilva, prin DS Argeș, OS Costești, UP I Stolnici, iar din punct de vedere al administrației de stat se află pe raza comunei Stolnici. Cca. 67 % din sit este reprezenat de paduri de cvercinee (trupul Balaceanca, pe malul drept tehnic al Cotmenei, iar pe malul stang trupurile Padurea Vlascuta si Cracul Sirului). Cca. 23 % din sit sunt ocupate de pajisti, iar cca. 10 % de lac si zonele umede adiacente.;

Este printre pu inele situri desemnate pentru habitatele forestiere 91M0 (Pannonian-Balkanic turkey oak –sessile oak forests). Este printre puținele situri desemnate pentru Emys orbicularis.De importanță ridicată pentru Lutra lutra și pentru speciile de amfibieni Bombina și Triturus.;
