Other Site Characteristics

Este cel mai intins lac,de aproximativ 1860 ha.Ridicarea nivelului apei prin suprainaltarea digurilor initiale a dus la disparitia aproape completa a stufului si a altor plante palustre emerse.Sunt evidente fenomenele de eroziune.In imprejurimi se intind culturi agricole si pajisti.Accesul la lac se face pe DN3 Oltenita - Calarasi, pe drumuri locale si de camp.;

4.2 Quality and importance

Acest sit gazduieste efective importante ale unor specii de pasari protejate. Conform datelor avem urmatoarele categorii: a) numar de specii din anexa 1 a Directivei Pasari: 26 b) numar de alte specii migratoare, listate in anexele Conventiei asupra speciilor migratoare (Bonn): 47 c) numar de specii periclitate la nivel global: 5 Situl este important pentru populatiile cuibaritoare ale speciilor urmatoare: Pelecanus crispus Aythya nyroca Botaurus stellaris Ixobrychus minutus Situl este important in perioada de migratie pentru speciile: Pelecanus onocrotalus Phalacrocorax pygmaeus Tringa glareola Pluvialis apricaria Egretta alba Philomachus pugnax In perioada de migratie situl gazduieste mai mult de 20.000 de exemplare de pasari de balta, fiind posibil canditat ca sit RAMSAR. SOR: Sit desemnat ca IBA conform urmatoarelor criterii elaborate de BirdLife International: C1, C2, C4, C6.;
