Other Site Characteristics

This site consists of several smaller islands and one large flat island. The bedrock is Precambrian and the dominating soil types are glacial gravel and glacial sand. Dominating vegetation types are flat-rock pine forest and open grassland. The waters in the site are shallow. Some parts are exposed, and some are protected from wind and waves.

4.2 Quality and importance

This site is considered to be of considerable nature conservation interest. The large open grasslands are extraordinary in the region. On the main island Botrychium matricariifolium, Botrychium lunaria, Moneses uniflora, Goodyera repens, Hammarbya paludosa, Lathyrus palustris, Neottia nidus-avis and Sanicula europaea are found. The vegetation and submarine fauna of the shallow water areas have not been investigated. However, Ruppia cirrhosa, and Eleocharis parvula are fund in the larger flad. The abiotic conditions in bottom material, bottom topography and water quality seem favourable. The site hosts a rather dense population of breeding waterfowl.
