Other Site Characteristics

Ekholmen is a small peninsula in the lake Aspen. It is covered with deciduous forest, which have long continuity in the area. Many endangered species dependent of old oaks have been found. The peninsula is connected to the mainland trough a vast wet forest dominated by birch an alder.

4.2 Quality and importance

In Ekholmen there are many species of deciduous trees present. The old oaks are very impressive with a variety of endangered species of insects and lichens. In the site there is also a rich flora of bryophytes. Except for the redlisted species about 15 near-threatened species of invertebrates, lichenes, fungi and birds have been recorded in the area.
