Calcareous minerals occurs in the ground. There are also two rocks in the site with natural forests with dead wood.

4.2 Quality and importance

Vilsta naturreservat är till största delen bevuxet med barrskog. Skogen är i regel olikåldrig och i stora delar opåverkad av sentida skogsbruk. Variationen mellan bestånden är emellertid stor, vilket gynnar biodiversiteten. Insprängt i skogslandskapet finns också hällmarker och sumpstråk. Ned mot Eskilstunaån ökar lövinslaget och närmast ån utbreder sig ek-hasselskogar med en mycket rik örtflora. I hela området finns dessutom en mycket intressant svampflora med flera rödlistade och andra sällsynta arter. I norr, nära en nedlagd silvergruva, finns kalkrika skogsmarker med ovanliga orkidéer. Området är utnyttjat av friluftslivet.
