Back to top3.1 Habitat types present on the site and assessment for them
No habitat types are reported for the site
3.2 Species referred to in Article 4 of Directive 2009/147/EC and listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43/EEC and site evaluation for them
- Group: A = Amphibians, B = Birds, F = Fish, I = Invertebrates, M = Mammals, P = Plants, R = Reptiles
- S: in case that the data on species are sensitive and therefore have to be blocked for any public access enter: yes
- NP: in case that a species is no longer present in the site enter: x (optional)
- Type: p = permanent, r = reproducing, c = concentration, w = wintering (for plant and non-migratory species use permanent)
- Unit: i = individuals, p = pairs or other units according to the Standard list of population units and codes in accordance with Article 12 and 17 reporting (see reference portal)
- Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
- Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics
Eknön is a large island situated in the inner part of the big archipelago of Östergötland. The island is built up by surge gravel and fine sediments. The island is varied with a remarkable large content of deciduous forest. A lot of old trees are found throughout the whole island. In the north the landscape is dominated by the open farmland also in the south more or less open oakpastures are present. In between the farmland more closed forest are found. The fauna and flora on the island are very rich with interesting species of lichens, mushrooms, woodcoleoptera and birds etc. The most remarkable species of woodcolepotera found on the island are; Osmoderma eremita, Gnorimus variabilis, Tenebrio opacus and Allecula rhenana. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Eknön is a very valueable and varied island with very high biological values. The old and natural deciduous forest on the island and other valueable habitats are present in an original manner. The habitats on the island contains all the necessary components for the survival of rare and threatened species. Examples of species are Osmoderma eremita (coleoptera) and Chaenotheca cinerea (lichen). |

An actual management plan does exist:
6.3 Conservation measures (optional)
The main purpose of the nature reserve of Eknön is to maintain the old, natural deciduous forest on the island with all its valuable components. Most of the forest on the island shall be left without any actions (measures?). Around some of the old trees it is necessary to take away bushes and trees to make better conditions for the species living there. For more information see binder 0582-201 at the County Administration Board. |
