- PF: for the habitat types that can have a non-priority as well as a priority form (6210, 7130, 9430) enter "X" in the column PF to indicate the priority form.
- NP: in case that a habitat type no longer exists in the site enter: x (optional)
- Cover: decimal values can be entered
- Caves: for habitat types 8310, 8330 (caves) enter the number of caves if estimated surface is not available.
- Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation)

Other Site Characteristics
| Krkeryd is situated along the big lake Vttern in the western part of stergtland. Krkeryd includes faults where the bedrock goes steep down to Vttern. The big fault where Vttern is situated were formed between 200-600 years ago when movements in the earth-crust occured. The bedrock at the site consist of granite. Above the steep fault pastures, clear bedrock and open fields are found. The layer of soil is thin and consist of moraine. The soil contains lime which influences the flora of the area.
The local climate of the area where Krkeryd nature reserve is situated is favourable for a lot of species. The flora and fauna of the site are speciesrich and in some parts unique with for example Scabiosa columbaria and Dracocephalum ruyschiana.
The taigaforest in the steep fault and along the lake are old and unaffected of forestry.
The Nature Reserve is well known for its flora, the most remarkable and rare plant is the Dragons Head flower (Dracocephalum ruyschiana) which grows on the
inaccessible precipices. The main area of distribution of this flower is the
Siberian steppes. The Dragons Head flower was presumably introduced to
Sweden about 10 000 years ago when the ice melted and left an open
tundralike landscape. In spite of thousands of years of great climatic and
vegetative changes the Dragons Head flower has survived on these precipes along Lake Vttern." |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Krkeryd is a very valueable site both for biological and geological contents. The site is rich of species dependent on both lime in the soil, dry conditions, old forest and warm temperature etc. The flora of the area is found only at a few places in Sweden. |
4.3 Threats, pressures and activities with impacts on the site

6.2 Management Plan(s):
An actual management plan does exist:
6.3 Conservation measures (optional)
| The main purposes of the nature reserve of Krkeryd are to preserve the high botanical values both in the open pastures and in the forests, the rare fauna of the area and the large faults which have high geological values.
Parts of the site shall be grassed while other parts shall be used for culture of oldfashioned weeds. Most of the forest area shall be left without any management. The site shall be available for the people to visit and experience.
For more information see the management plan in binder 0509-209 at the County Administration Board. |
